HBR Report - COMPETING IN 2020: WINNERS AND LOSERS IN THE DIGITAL ECONOMY

This is a good read. Though the following paragraph jumped out to me:

"The need for restructuring results from the fact that digital requires collaboration across traditional silos. This starts at the top, in the C-suite, and continues down through the organization. Digital leaders are tackling the hard work of reorganizing away from traditional silos, functions, and hierarchies to encourage more collaboration and coordination (77 percent are doing this compared with 62 percent of hybrids and only 40 percent of non-digitals)."

As we all know, organisational change is tough to do and with the inflection point (if you accept the HBR view) arriving at 2020, one key metric that is missing in the document for me is - Will you be ready?

I feel we will see a further tranche of startups that won’t have the baggage of legacy systems and who from a culture and technology perspective will be in a far better position to hit the inflection point - I'm more than happy for this to happen as a consumer, as it brings me great new offerings. This said, as an Architect I'm really excited to be able to help organisations transform and there is some excellent collateral out there to support you in this change, for example the Microsoft Digital Transformation landing site is a great starting point to understand what digital transformation could offer and then take the time to visualise what this means your organisation as I feel this will be where the Digital Transformation race will be won or lost!
